BETWEEN LATE FEBRUARY, MARCH AND APRIL

Lent and Holy Week.

The centennial traditions of the Christian faith of the churches of La Antigua Guatemala stir with the scent of incense and the majestic carpets of flowers or sawdust, filling the atmosphere of La Antigua Guatemala with a call to the devotion. Visit every Friday a special altar in different church and every Sunday, processions coming out of different churches. Participate or be witness of the fervor of the activities of Holly Week and the colorful parade of suits, carpets and pennants that proclaim the most important festivity in La Antigua Guatemala.

MAY

Cross Day Celebration, at Cerro de la Candelaria.

Witness the beautiful decorations in atrium crosses and churches in this important day, and participate of this beautiful ceremony in one of the most important hills of the colonial city.

JUNE

Corpus Christi Celebration.

Participate of this solemn celebration in the Cathedral. The Dance of Giants that is carried out in front of the religious building is a tradition with centuries of antiquity.

JULY

Holiday honoring Santiago de los Caballeros (the 25th).

The Official Celebration in honor of the Saint of La Antigua Guatemala. Delight yourself with local plates and have a pleasant afternoon with the whole community in the streets.

Celebration at Central Park honoring San Cristobal (the 26th).

The former day’s celebrations extend one day more, now to honor the day of San Cristobal, right in the middle of heart of The Antigua Guatemala.

Saint Hermano Pedro de Guatemala's Canonization Anniversary (30th).

One of the most prominent parties in La Antigua Guatemala due to the historical importance of the Saint’s veneration, to whom even nowadays are attributed many miracles.

August

SEPTEMBER

School parade and activities with school bands (14th and 15th).

The patriotic sense and the Guatemalan pride are the main characters of cheerful parades and band competitions in the whole region of Sacatepéquez, with the joyful music of school bands manifesting the celebration of the Independence celebration in La Antigua Guatemala.

OCTOBER

Child's Day Celebration at Central Park.

The more converged and famous square of La Antigua Guatemala dedicates this day to the kids, which can have an unforgettable day with activities and all kind of celebrations.

NOVEMBER

Funeral March Concert at General Cemetery (1st).

Solemn notes that rise from diverse instruments intoning master pieces dating from the Baroque period, in a concert that moves the very fibers of the soul, taking place in the beginning of November at All Saint’s Day.

Experience the jaw dropping 60 foot wide handmade kies at the neigboring community of Sumpango. It's a great feast, tradition and competition.

DECEMBER

Devil's Burning at Barrio de la Concepción (7th).

Fire up the joy of the streets in this neighbourhood of La Antigua Guatemala, in preparation for December festivities.

Las Posadas (starting from the 15th).

A reminder of Saint Mary, Joseph and the Boy Jesus journey, in one of the most beautiful celebrations of La Antigua Guatemala. Accompany the pilgrims; participate then with devotion and taste all kind of delicious typical food special for the occasion.

Visit to Nativity scenes.

Famous Nativity scenes are staged in, representations of the coming of Jesus to our world, are prepared and admired in these days. Many of the used images date back to the city’s Colonial Period.
